Dental photography has become incresingly important in the analysis of the teeth and mouth.

This months Las Vegas ITI Study Club presents Dr. Michael Scherer, DMD, MS with a presentation on Contemporary Digital Photography. Reviewing basic camera techniques and introducing more advanced methods of dental photography.

Speaker: Dr. Michael Scherer, DMD, MS

Dr. Michael Scherer is currently an Assistant Professor in Residence at University of Nevada – Las Vegas, an Assistant Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University, and a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. He has published articles related to clinical prosthodontics and implant dentistry and
completed a master’s degree related to implant overdentures with multiple publications pending.

As an avid technology & computer hobbyist, Dr. Scherer’s involvement in digital implant dentistry has led him to develop and utilize new technology with CAD/CAM surgical systems and implement student facilitated CBCT implant planning. Dr. Scherer serves as the director of the implant dentistry curriculum at UNLV and is actively engaged in guided surgical placement and prosthetic restoration of implants.

Course Description

The world of digital imaging for dentistry can be very complex and challenging. This presentation is a comprehensive review of dental photography, including basic and some advanced techniques. Included is a discussion on cameras, mirrors, and materials needed for proper dental photography techniques. Additionally, use of the camera and various methods will be discussed.
Demonstration technique will be performed with a video presentation.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand digital camera technology for use in dental photography
2. Exposure to techniques of how to position and make good intraoral and extraoral photographs
3. Exposure the various types of computer software for digital photograph manipulation
