Is It Gingivitis? LANAP Can Help

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 out of every 2 Americans over the age of 30 has gum disease. That’s 50%! The sad part is, most of them don’t even realize it. It first appears as gingivitis, but if left untreated it will progress to periodontitis and could cause you to lose not only gum tissue but your teeth also. The best way to fight off gingivitis is to practice diligent home care and have regular dental checkups, but that still won’t guarantee that you won’t be one of the 50%. Here are some of the warning signs:

  • Sores inside the mouth
  • Gums appear bright red, purple or shiny
  • Sore gums that are tender to touch
  • Bleeding gums, especially when brushing
  • Swollen gums

LANAP can be used for gingivitis

Anthem Periodontics performs LANAP

Once gingivitis has progressed to periodontitis, it will not improve on it’s own. Fortunately we have many treatment options to heal gum disease and reverse the damage it causes to your teeth and gums.

Many of our periodontitis patients have experienced a positive outcome through Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). LANAP is an in-office procedure that that uses a specially designed dental laser to sterilize the dental pocket and remove damaged tissue. At the end of the procedure, a fibrous clot is formed which stimulates the healthy gum tissue to regenerate. Most patients are able to resume their regular diet within 48 hours of having LANAP performed since there is no cutting or sutures involved.

If you suspect that you may have gingivitis, it’s time to schedule an oral health evaluation. The gum experts at Anthem Periodontics and Dental Implants are highly trained and experienced in LANAP as well as several other gingivitis and periodontitis treatments. We even offer in-house financing to help you pay for the costs that aren’t covered by your dental plan. Contact us today to learn more.
